Civida recognizes that we work and serve on Treaty 6 territory, within the Métis homelands and Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4, which has been home to First Nations such as the Nêhiyawak (Cree), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux), Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Chipewyan (Dene) and Nakota Sioux (Stoney). We acknowledge that long before Civida came into existence, diverse Indigenous peoples made their home here, and continue to be custodians of the land.
We recognize that our work and presence have an impact on the people with whom we share this territory. Housing is important in the journey of reconciliation. As such we have an inherent responsibility to become aware of our shared history, understand the spirit and intent of Treaty 6, and by doing so, honour the past, be mindful of the present, and create a just and caring future built upon peace, friendship and understanding.
