Affordable Housing Options

Community (Social) Housing

Community Housing provides subsidized housing to people with lower incomes.

  • You pay rent based on a percentage of your income.
  • You live in a Civida home.
  • You are placed on a priority list using a point scoring system. It is not first come, first served.

Rent Assistance Benefit

Rent Assistance Benefit (RAB) is a long-term benefit paid directly to families and individuals to help pay rent with a private landlord.

Temporary Rent Assistance Benefit (TRAB) is a short-term benefit paid directly to families and individuals to help pay rent with a private landlord.

Near Market (Affordable) and Student Housing

Near Market Housing provides subsidized housing to people with moderate incomes.

  • You pay rent that is 10-40 per cent below current market rental rates.
  • You live in a Civida home.
  • There is no priority list or point scoring for Near Market Housing like there is for Community Housing.

Mixed Income Housing

Mixed Income Housing is designed to have a diverse group of tenants with different income levels, all living in the same building.

  • You pay rent based on a percentage of your income. The amount of rent you pay depends on your gross monthly household income.
  • You live in a Civida home.

The Housing Benefit for Survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is a program funded by the Government of Alberta. It supports Albertans leaving abusive situations by helping cover housing costs such as rent, utilities, and mortgage payments.

Women Building Futures

Civida Housing has assumed responsibility for Women Building Futures’ Property Management and Waitlist Management. If you are interested in applying to live in the Women Building Futures property, you can select, not only Women Building Futures Housing, but other Civida housing programs as well. If you have a current Civida application for Housing, you can to update your application to include the Women Building Futures property.
