Karen Stone replaces outgoing Chair, Paul Whittaker, January 1, 2022.

 

January 7, 2022 (Edmonton, Alberta) – The Civida Board announced today that Vice Chair Karen Stone will step into the role of Chair, effective January 1, 2022.

“Karen is a strategic leader who combines integrity and fairness with business development and growth. She is a catalyst for innovation and demonstrates visionary leadership,” says outgoing Chair, Paul Whittaker.

Karen Stone has served with the Civida Board for the past six years, and as Vice Chair for the past two years. She brings a wealth of experience from across the globe, from her work as a human rights lawyer in South Africa to her many roles in policy and strategic development initiatives in housing and homelessness in Canada. Karen has been, amongst other roles, the Executive Director of the Alberta Interagency Council on Homelessness; CEO of the B.C. Non-Profit Housing Association, and the Society for Affordable Housing Education, Awareness and Development; and President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Edmonton. She is an advocate for social justice, with a high priority on the provision and sustainability of affordable housing.
